Join us for our virtual speaker series featuring exciting and innovative nonprofit and social impact leaders. Speakers will share their diverse perspectives on a range of nonprofit, philanthropic, and civic sector challenges, as well as important leadership lessons. Up next in our speaker series is Jose Antonio Tijerino who will talk to us about the power and importance of storytelling, effecting change for Latinx communities, responding to workforce and societal needs, and his leadership journey.

Jose is the president and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), a national nonprofit focused on education, workforce, social impact, and culture through innovative leadership. Under his leadership, HHF has been recognized as a creative, agile, impact-focused organization recognized by The White House, US Congress, Fortune 500 companies, other nonprofits, and the Government of Mexico. Jose is a leading voice on various issues including diversity, immigration, creativity and youth empowerment.

Prior to HHF, Jose served as an executive at the Fannie Mae Foundation, Nike, Burson Marsteller, and Cohn & Wolfe. In addition, he has served on various boards and committees including the Latino Leadership Initiative at Harvard’s Kennedy School, University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, University System of Maryland Foundation, National Girls Collaborative, and Games for Change among others.

As a proud immigrant from Nicaragua, he has helped found and lead numerous campaigns to support Hispanic communities, including the Hispanic Leaders Alliance with the NFL, #Masks4Farmworkers which provided more than 2 million masks for farmworkers during pandemic, and helped produce the Oyeme! Project with Imagination Stage portraying the plight of unaccompanied minors. He is a Salinas Fellow at the Aspen Institute; and serves as an executive producer of the Hispanic Heritage Awards at the Kennedy Center, which are broadcast on PBS.

He earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland’s school of journalism, and was honored with a Doctorate of Humane Letters from The Chicago School.
