Application and Process Steps
Step 1: Current University of Maryland, College Park students may look over all of our Summer 2025 positions below and see what roles are interesting to you. Visit our application portal to submit your materials by Sunday, February 23 at 11:59pm. We collect a standard resume and writing sample from each applicant.. You may apply to more than one position.
Step 2: Please do not reach out directly to host organizations. All applications must go through the application portal. The Do Good Institute will reach out to you by March 21 to let you know whether or not you have been matched with an organization for further review. Please note that you may be advanced with up to three organizations.
Step 3: From there, the organizations will reach out to candidates they are interested in, interview them, and extend an offer to the student they think is the best fit for the position. Hosts may request additional materials such as a cover letter or references at this time. Filling out an application form does not guarantee an interview or a placement.
Step 4: Exact internship dates vary for each position, but most internships run from June to August. You will also be a member of our cohort of other Impact Interns and participate in professional development programming during the summer.

Arts
Arts for the Aging engages older adults and caregivers in health improvement and life enhancement through regular participation in the multidisciplinary arts. They stimulate minds, bodies, spirits and imaginations. Arts for Aging is a nationally-recognized social service organization that delivers its experiences in community and residential care settings and with museums and cultural institutions in Greater Washington D.C.

The mission of the BBDC is to preserve, uplift, and empower Black dance artists in the Baltimore area. By connecting the community on varying levels to those artists, we can enrich the local arts scene and enhance the involvement of Black dance artists in our local and national arts community, making it more visible for their work to be shown, shared, and appreciated.

EducArte offers music, dance and arts programming that centers around encounters of African, indigenous and European cultures in the Americas, especially in Latin America. RISE Arts Center provides a multidisciplinary arts education to youth in underserved communities and youth and young adults with autism and/or other intellectual disabilities in Baltimore City. We aim to strengthen creative skill sets by utilizing art exhibitions, musical theater, art therapy, creative writing, and entrepreneurship education. Through our program youth develop confidence, social skills, life skills and critical thinking to face life's daily challenges.

B-360 utilizes dirt bike culture to end the cycle of poverty, disrupt the prison pipeline, and build bridges in communities. TERP FARM is the University’s own sustainable produce farm located 15 miles from campus at the University’s Central Maryland Research and Education Center, Upper Marlboro Facility. Established in 2014 as collaboration between the Department of Dining Services and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the farm provides fresh produce to the campus dining halls and food-insecure members of the campus community through donations to the UMD Campus Pantry. Additionally, the farm has served as a “living laboratory” for students of the University to engage in practical farming applications and learn skills and concepts that are imperative to running a successful farming operation.

There Goes My Hero (Hero) save lives, provide hope and helps those impacted by blood cancer. Today, Hero partners with DKMS to add potential lifesavers to the National Bone Marrow Registry; and with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and other local providers to provide a support system to blood cancer patients and their families, including transportation services, parking coupons and housing during treatment.

Founded in 2009, Blossoms of Guyana is a 100% volunteer based nonprofit organization chartered in the state of Maryland. Its mission is to improve the educational outcomes of low-income students living in Guyana. We accomplish this by providing books, computers, equipment, school supplies and teaching supplies, and creating safe and fun learning environments to help children learn more and realize their greatest potential.

The Existential Heroism Institute provides strategic analysis for world-scale issues along with research, reports, and educational materials to support social and environmental solutions. EHI was founded in response to the meta-crisis. They look to generate various designs of “third-attractor" state models that factor in the metacrisis as a set of design constraints.

In partnership with schools and communities, Girls Inc of the Washington Metro Area focuses on the development of the whole girl. She learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and evidence-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Life Pieces To Masterpieces (LPTM) develops character and leadership, unlocks potential, and prepares Black and Brown boys and young men growing up in DC’s Wards 7 and 8 to transform their lives and communities. In a world that devalues and threatens the lives of Black and Brown men young and old, LPTM provides refuge for boys to break through negative self-images, tell authentic stories of their life experiences, and build strong bonds of brotherhood.

Community Advocates for Family and Youth's mission is to embrace, educate and empower those impacted, affected, or harmed by crime or trauma on their journey to justice and healing. The organization envisions building and continuously seeking and growing new and stronger partnerships across the county and state and of bridging the community and survivors of crime or trauma that will result in lower crime, confident survivors and a more trauma-informed care system.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/ Prince George’s County, Inc. is a volunteer-based organization that partners with the juvenile court to improve the lives of children living in foster care who have suffered from abuse and neglect. With a strong commitment to diversity, CASA/ Prince George’s County trains and supervises volunteers from the community who advocate for the best interest of children, recognizing and respecting each child’s individual needs. By providing a voice to children in the foster care system, it is its goal to help children and promote the timely placement of those we serve in safe, permanent homes.

Miriam's Kitchen's goal is to end chronic homelessness. The Miriam’s Kitchen team utilizes a comprehensive approach to eliminating the housing crisis in Washington, D.C. Through engaging our guests with healthy, made-from-scratch meals, we connect them with personalized social services that assist them with re-building their lives. Beyond our intensive program offering, we regularly engage community leaders and elected officials who fiercely advocate on our guests’ behalf.

The mission of Smalltimore Homes is to provide those living below the poverty level, specifically those experiencing homelessness, with micro shelter and tiny home solutions. Through partnerships, the villagers are provided supportive wrap-around services and renewable energy sources, both made available as onsite amenities. Smalltimore’s housing programs and outreach activities are the catalysts to engage supportive and curious volunteers, while also helping the most vulnerable members of our communities on a trajectory to reach their goals and fulfill their potential.

The Dented Puck Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity created to support the parasport of blind hockey. Blind hockey is an adaptive version of the sport of hockey for people who are legally blind. The charity was started by two former hockey players who lost almost all of their vision, and are now deemed legally blind. The Dented Puck started as a podcast meant to grow awareness for our sport, and quickly morphed into a multi-faceted organization with a sole goal to grow awareness and funding, while creating opportunities for growth within our sport.

The University of Maryland Campus Pantry’s mission is to alleviate food insecurity among UMD-College Park students, faculty and staff by providing emergency food to University of Maryland College Park those in need.
