This summer, University of Maryland students are spending their break driving meaningful change through hands-on internships with mission-driven organizations. Through the Do Good Institute’s Impact Interns program, more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students have been placed in paid roles at over 80 social impact organizations.
The professional development and leadership initiative connects passionate students with meaningful opportunities that help them gain experience, build networks and explore careers in the social sector.
Impact Interns has partnered with The David Reznick Foundation this year to support public policy students interested in housing, community development, and social justice. The Foundation works to carry on the legacy of David Reznick '59, a legend in the affordable housing industry, who dedicated his career to improving accessibility to affordable housing and academic opportunity.
This program is about giving students the opportunity to explore how their skills and passions can contribute to the good being done by nonprofit organizations across the country. Partnership with University of Maryland Fellows Program
The Do Good Institute is proud to announce that after a successful Spring 2026 pilot, it is continuing to partner with the University of Maryland Fellows Program to create Impact Interns @ UMD Fellows. Over the past 18 years, the UMD Fellows program, within the Office of Undergraduate Studies, has engaged more than 2,700 students across its Maryland, Federal and Global tracks, preparing them for careers in public service. Each year, more than 240 students from over 50 majors participate, gaining hands-on experience through academic coursework and internships. Since its launch, Impact Interns has matched more than 350 students with over 200 nonprofit and social impact organizations, building a community of practitioners committed to advancing the public good. The partnership combines the paid internship sites from the Impact Interns program with the UMD Fellows students who are looking to explore social impact career paths. As a newly named Do Good Campus Signature Initiative, the program provides paid nonprofit internship offerings and continues equipping a diverse cohort—including first-generation, immigrant and international students—with the tools and experience needed to pursue meaningful careers that address pressing societal challenges.
