On Monday, December 9, Dr. Mary Tschirhart, Professor and Director of the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at George Washington University, joined select School of Public Policy faculty and PhD students in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership to kick off our Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Research Seminar series.
Dr. Tschirhart led a conversation with faculty and students about the sector's trends, opportunities, and challenges. She also shared some of her current research projects and opportunities for scholarly engagement across institutions. Dr. Tschirhart encouraged those in attendance and the field to branch out and attend different conferences where issues in our field are discussed. She and the seminar participants expressed great interest in collaborating to make the Washington, D.C. area a hotbed for nonprofit studies.
Dr. Tschirhart is the past president of the Association for Research on Nonprofit and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) and serves on the editorial boards for several leading academic journals. She has more than sixty publications including the books Artful Leadership and Managing Nonprofit Organizations. Dr. Tschirhart joined GW from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at the Ohio State University, where she taught courses on nonprofit management and governance for the past six years. Prior to that, she directed North Carolina State University’s Institute for Nonprofit Research, Education and Engagement and had faculty appointments at Syracuse University and Indiana University.
