Katy Waters ’28 (left) and Aoife Gill ’28 work on “Brighter Futures at UMD,” a large-scale mural designed by members of the Honors Humanities program in the Honors College. The mural, located on the top floor of Regents Drive Garage, is inspired by the University of Maryland’s commitment to renewable energy, including the garage’s solar panels. Using environmentally friendly paints and materials, students filled in the mural’s motifs of the sun, growth and interconnectedness, a nod to the importance of mental health. The initiative received funding from the Do Good Campus Fund and Arts for All.

A block party celebrating the mural at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tawes Plaza will include art, music, educational activities and opportunities to meet the artists and learn about UMD’s sustainability initiatives. It’s open to all students, faculty, staff and community members.
